Long term transition meaning a person that can go pass a year without cutting off their relaxed ends . Long term transition will not work for everyone .
If you are patient you will be able to do a long term transition successfully . Successfully meaning you will still have a lot of relaxed hair while you are going natural .
Healthy hair from the beginning , if you had healthy relaxed hair their is no reason for you to big chop . healthy hair tends to hold longer and not look raggedy while it grow out . Also its possible that you already know how to take care of your hair .
Long hair - if you had long hair or at least 6 inches at the beginning of your transition it may be a shock to cut it all off. Also long hair may mean you know how to deal with a lot of hair and you can adjust accordingly to your hair needs with few tips .
If you are not fully committed to going natural , just continue to play with the idea and see where it takes you . Its not wise to always make impulsive decision , if you chop and you are not ready you will easy return back to relaxer , also a lot of woman complain about not liking their natural texture and go back to relaxing just as quickly as they big chop . I think part of it is, that they are just in shock and didnt spend the time to adjust to taking care of their natural texture .
If you are bold and dont mind being natural with a TWA then go ahead and chop , more power to you .
Short hair is not necessary to hold on to ,as in a year your natural hair will be longer and stronger that your relaxed ends . In my opinion its best to transition to up to 3-6 months and chop , it will be a waste of products as you will be cutting it in a year time anyways .
As mention above the overall health of the hair is also a factor . If your ends are raggedy , thin and damage it may also be best to cut it after some months . Unhealthy hair is not attractive and sometime its beyond repair .
Transition hair will required more TLC than usual , so you have to take care of your hair . If you are not capable of taking care of two texture then its best to cut because you will have to master taking care of two texture and it will take you sometimes especially if its your first time attempting transitioning .
If your hair is fragile and you will not invest some time in it well its going to break off maybe before a year time so I would say just go ahead and chop.
If you are more about wearing weaves then its also a good idea to chop since maybe 90 percent of the time you will be in weaves/wig .
At the end of the day we can all try buts different things work for different people .
